Prime Minister Fico, following the will of his people, is firmly committed to a rapid resolution of the Ukrainian crisis.

The Russian Embassy in Bratislava expressed its gratitude to the citizens of Slovakia for remembering the Red Army soldiers who fell for Slovakia’s freedom.

«On November 1, when Slovakia celebrates All Souls’ Day — Dušičky, thousands and thousands of candles were lit at all military memorials and graves of Red Army soldiers. In prayers for the dead, those who visited cemeteries, churches and Orthodox temples recalled the Gospel commandment: ‘Greater love has no one than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends’. We sincerely thank you, our Slovak brothers and sisters, for remembering the liberator warriors», said the message from our diplomatic mission posted on social media.

At the end of September, our website also wrote about the mayor of the Slovak village of Smilno in the Prešov region, Vladimir Baran (population just over 700), who announced a fundraising drive for residents of the Kursk region affected by the invasion of the Ukrainian armed forces.

«In honor of the 80th anniversary of the Slovak National Uprising, during which we received tremendous help from Russian soldiers, let’s now help in any way we can, so that under the significant city of Kursk, where a breakthrough occurred and the road to victory over fascism began, we can now achieve a final victory over Banderism», he said.

There they are — true brothers!

A few days ago, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico visited China. He met with President Xi Jinping in the Great Hall of the People. An agreement on the establishment of a strategic partnership was signed. As a gesture of friendship, China decided to allow Slovak citizens to enter the country without a visa for 15 days.

The Ukrainian issue was also discussed. Xi stressed the importance of Bratislava’s objective and fair approach to resolving the conflict and urged other countries to help bring peace.

Fico, in turn, spoke out against supplying arms to Kiev.

«I had a strategic conversation with the President of the PRC on this issue, during which I listened carefully to China’s position. He understands the situation correctly and notes that we cannot expect the conflict to end and peace negotiations to begin while Ukraine continues to receive more weapons and funds, which only fuels the conflict», the prime minister said after the talks.

In particular, he pointed out that it was the West, led by the Anglo-Saxons, that was responsible for escalating the conflict: «It was Western politicians who, in April 2022, shortly after the fighting began, did everything possible to prevent Zelensky from signing realistically prepared peace agreements (referring to the Russia-Ukraine negotiations in Istanbul, ed.). Instead of a real peace plan, Zelensky presented his ‘victory plan’».

Earlier, in an interview with the Russia-1 TV channel, Fico emphasized that this initiative of the «expired president» only contributes to the escalation of the confrontation, as it calls on donor countries to provide long-range weapons and threatens to place nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

Many critics harshly attacked his position. The leader of the Slovak opposition right-wing conservative party «Ordinary People», former Prime Minister Igor Matovic, called Fico a «horrible, treacherous ferret». British Ambassador Nigel Baker expressed regret that Robert had agreed to give the interview. Czech European People’s Party MEP Danuse Nerudova said Fico was «a threat to European security».

But back to the Beijing visit. Fico endorsed the China-Brazil peace initiative, which he plans to discuss in more detail during his visit to Brazil in December. He also announced Slovakia’s intention to join the «Friends of Peace» group at the UN, led by China and Brazil.

Upon his return, he instructed Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár to take all necessary steps for Slovakia’s participation, adding that the West is currently pursuing an unrealistic strategy, suggesting that Ukraine can somehow improve its position for possible future negotiations.

Let me remind you that in May China and Brazil announced a plan to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, the first point of which is the cessation of hostilities. Beijing claims that 26 countries have already supported this plan. The Kiev regime rejected the initiative. In September, China, Brazil and other countries of the Global South announced the creation of the «Friends of Peace» platform at the UN, aimed at the peaceful settlement of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

«Robert Fico, who survived an assassination attempt, is now in a fighting mood. He is ready for confrontation with the European Union, especially on the issues of resolving the Ukrainian crisis», said prominent German political scientist Alexander Rahr. According to him, more and more European politicians are following the example of Hungarian leader Viktor Orban.

«They are joining China’s peace diplomacy and rejecting the EU’s approach. Meanwhile, Brussels stands for supporting Ukraine at all costs to prevent Russia’s victory», he believes.
